Turbo Forged stroker build...what rear end ???

OK im in the process of building a complete forged stroker.

I dont do any rock crawling and I will be using the Lunati 63501 cam. (213/220) Building more of a street/strip jeep for something different.

This is going in a 97 Cherokee. Ill will be pushing around 10-15lbs of boost. Now this thing is not gonna have that monster off idle torque that alot of the strokers have. Its also getting a fully ported head with LS1 valves.

Im pretty sure my cherokee has the Dana 35, so I was wondering what other options are out there for swapping in a beefier rear? Maybe shoot for a Detroit locker as well.

Are there bolt in rears? Or does some fab work need to be done to swap in a different rear? Either way is not a problem. Im just not sure how strong of a rear I will need since its not for rock crawling, mudding, or anything that needs tons of torque down low. Tires will not be any bigger then 235's....I may even swap on some wider rims and go with a little bit lower profile and wider tire as well.

If you ease into the throttle the Dana 35 might hold up. The easiest upgrade if you can find one is a Dana 44 out of the Comanche pickups that had the metric ton package, and I have heard of some Cherokees getting them. The next easiest upgrade is a Ford 8.8 out of an Explorer.

I started with a 8.25-blew it up a few x . then got a 8.8 w/4.10 and trac loc(stock ford 31 spline-2000 explorer) it held up for about a year, then I stripped the diff in it as well. And I don't even have a stroker yet :( but then I was drag racing with a 5spd so.....LOTS of shock to it .With the turbo,it'll be easier on it for sure, unless you get serious and get a auto w/trans brake and spool up on the line :boom: :hrhr:

hehe..its an auto...and when i upgrade the tranny I thought about a trans brake. :) that will definetly make it explode..hehe..but thats in the future. Yea the turbo will be easier on it, especially since Im shooting to make power more in the mid to upper rpm range.

The easiest upgrade would be the 8.25 29 spline. Just a strong as a D44... but cheaper and easier to find.

If you get tired of swapping entire rears you can use a Mopar 8 3/4 from 62-70 B Body with minor work

59.2" track with a 44" perch width
vs
60" track and 43.5" perch width

I bought one on Ebay for $50 it was 2.50 open diff but changing the hogs head is easy.

Wow someone else making a street beast too. I want to see pictures.
I bought a 9 " ( -chunk ) from moser for around 600. I specified the length and the brake type used and they made and sent it.
Here is a picture .

The easiest swap would be to call moser and spec a custom 9". The cheapest and, imho, the most effective would be an 8.8" out of an explorer. Ive deff seen 8.8s hold 800hp with a few mods. But then again Ive broken more D44 shafts than i care to remember and they are very comparable in strength to an 8.8.
