Monday morning i will be destroying a low millage 2000 XJ
It was traded in as a clunker.......which mean i have to add liquid sand(basically) into the crank case, run the eng until it dies!!!!!!!
The wrecking yard pic's it up at this point. There can be no parts sold of the vehicle ! it MUST go directly to the crusher and be destroyed.
I think i will shed a tear when this jeep breath it's last breath.
I have always bought stuff that others have given up on, breath life back into it, and used it for many more years.
I also have to kill two old suburbans, but they won't be nearly as hard on my hart.
I realize i have open a big can of worms here.
The two discussion, I try to stay a way from, are Religion and politics!
I could give lots of appinon and nasty words but i will hold my tongue.

Re: SAD DAY IN JEEP LAND
This whole "Cash for Clunkers" is a load of bullshit. Its not helping the economy, the environment, nor the people that are broke. It doesn't help the economy because it isn't limited to US car companies, they can trade in a usable old car in on any brand car. Not only that but the salvage yards can't use them to recycle their parts and no money is made there. Its not helping the environment because that old car has already been made and a new car's production just causes that more use of resources and more pollution. And its not helping the people that need a car and are low on funds because those people can't afford a brand new car to begin with. And then most of the cars that are being traded in are not "clunkers" they are perfectly good used cars that could run a lot longer. They aren't some broke down rust bucket pos from decades ago. This just pisses me off.

Yeah I don't get it at all--they just want people to spend(owe) more money and falsely stimulate the economy(I feel for detroit, but this ain't the way). Conspiracy to get all the old vehicles off the road. I am one of seven children and our family had two Suburbans over the years(only thing that would hold us all). Oh the joys of learning to drive with a big ~5K# truck-wagon with the 454(talk about torque. . .and $ to fill 40gal tank).

I believe that they can remove the drivetrain, but that is all.

+1 John, you are not alone in feeling that way.

Re: SAD DAY IN JEEP LAND
WHAT A JOKE. All this does is eliminate an older vehicle and make you tied to the system with payments. Yes it goes right to the crusher. How does that help the poor guy who can only afford to keep fixing his broke ride with parts from a salvage yard?
I think anybody who participates in this program is foolish. Plain and simple. You are playing right into their hands. A low mileage 2000 XJ come on man! I bet you won't even get the full $4500 for it.
It gets me red hot. I wish people would think things over. This is just the trial run for a much larger scale program, you wait and see. This has become such a selfish society, people only think about what is good for them at the time. Not the ramifications of their actions.
You should sell the jeep really cheap to some kid who has a piece of shit ride or needs a vehicle. Than you can help promote the jeep life and do something good for someone who really needs it. I bet you will feel much better than if you just let a perfectly good ride go the scrapper.
The Question is what vehicle do you plan on buying?
I am curious.

Re: SAD DAY IN JEEP LAND
I saw on news last night that 8 of the top 10 new vehicles people are trading there clunkers on are foreign cars. I just wonder whos economy this is suppose to stimulate?
I say the guberment should give a $4500 tax credit to anyone that buys a vehicle that is 90% made and assembled in the US, if such a vehicle exsists.

Re: SAD DAY IN JEEP LAND
Yeah, thought real hard, about swapping the Vin tags between my 89 and that aka "clunker" but i couldn't see my 89 get crush either. I'm Dang proud of my 300,000+ XJ with original 4.0L motor.
I said i was going to hold my tongue on this subject.........but my Tongue has slip a little.
Like i said, killing this XJ was like doing it to one of my family! Obominations health car plan.........will that, in the end require a shot of some deadly substance, to the ever aging Baby Boomer. Now i know I'm playing the "drama Queen" here but GGGGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
By the way, i didn't kill the jeep, COULD NOT!!! Past it off to some one that could.

Not only that but the people that actually need a new car and own a clunker can't afford to buy a brand new car to begin with. As for the economy, most of the cars being purchased are foreign. Then there is the pollution issue.. how much more pollution is being created and natural resources used to create that new car when there was already a car made that was fine.BADASYJ wrote:WHAT A JOKE.
