I am fairly sure they came from one engine. I got them off Mgardiner1... Mikey, did they come from one engine?
When I go back to measure, should I try to center the piston in the bore with a feeler gauge?
Deck clearance variance?

I don't think centering the piston in the bore is necessary, as long as you try to get it level(side to side). The piston pin is offset(left to right). Make sure you measure at the same point front and back. Draw a center line down the center of all the pistons(front to back) You could also try a straight edge with a feeler gauge to measure.

Re: Deck clearance variance?
Stopped by the machine shop during lunch. He assured me that the rods were straight and true, just different lengths. He checked the pistons under compression using a spring to keep everything tight. So I guess my measurements are just out. Probably recheck them tomorrow though.

Re: Deck clearance variance?
Yeah chris i pulled them all from the same engine. However, they were already stamped which was a little unusual to me.... a lot of the diesel engines i had experiences rebuilding did not have numbers stamped on the con rods from the factory. Does the manufacturer stamp them before installing them? or is that a sign that the engine may have been rebuilt?
I don't have the entire history on the engine, but as far as i can tell, it was all original, just was getting tired

Re: Deck clearance variance?
The rods on my original 2000's engine were stamped too. I was a bit surprised to see them as well, but I purchased this Jeep with only 28,000 miles on it and I don't think the engine had been rebuilt by then.

Re: Deck clearance variance?
I went back and re did my measurements taking dwg's advice and pushing down on the piston. Much better numbers this time.
Take a look at my results:
Cylinder #; Front; Rear
1; .004; .004
2; .0029 .0032
3; -.001; -.0011 (above deck)
4; .001; .0015
5; .0045; .0042
6; .0039; .0039
Any difference in the numbers I attribute to user error.

Much much better. Now build that damn engine!

If the weather keeps up this nice I would be able to swing it in over the weekend. Updated build thread btw.
