Ambient Temp - Not really either, but I will keep an eye on it.

Flooring the pedal - Haven't tried it.

As for my data - I don't have a narrow band gauge. I am reading data from the Codes & Data screen from the Snap On scanner. It gives me a reading of "RICH" "CENTER" or "LEAN". It also gives me the voltage. I believe it also gives me the voltage reading of the downstream (after cat) O2 as well, but at this point that is just a tattletale sensor.

The scanner does give me IAC position/steps. I can't remember off the top of my head what it reads, but the IAC is kind of a moot device at WOT. Like I've said before, the motor idles great. It just sucks at WOT.

Something else that should be mentioned. I did replace the exhaust manifold with a "Challenge Y" style from ATP (sourced from RockAuto). The exhaust is stock other than that, though I am planning on replacing the muffler for a Flowmaster knockoff, or a glass pack. The intake is also stock, except for a K&N drop in air filter. I am planning a CAI, that puts the filter in the passenger's cowl to keep it out of the mud and water.

Other than that, the motor is stock. Stock pistons, stock crank, stock rods. The head is stock except for the three angle valve job, and the heavier springs installed by the machine shop. IIRC, he said the head was good to 5800 rpm.

Sadly, no. This is a stock motor.

The stroker parts I was putting together didn't come together in time. I have most of the parts, except for the pistons.

Besides, if I am having this many problems with a stock motor and a cam, what the hell is going to happen when I put a 4.6 in this thing?

Last week I did research on the Snap-On MT2500 and DRB-3. There is a cam sync feature. The sync can be +/-15* and a CEL won't be set. 0 is sync'd and the Dodge boys with "hotter" cams like to set it to +6 for best low-mid rpm power. Turn dizzy CCW to increase and CW to decrease. Anyhow, I need to check my 96 out and would love to rent either of the tools instead of paying a shop an hour labor and taking their word that they set it to +6. Popping out the intake is a big clue that yours might be out of sync.

If there is this option, I don't know where it would be.

Under the systems test option. Idle will raise to 1k when you select it, so don't worry.

I'll have to go plug in and look. See if it is there or not. My software revision on my cartridges might be too old....

Do you have key 13a? One guy said he had to set the MT2500 to Cali instead of federal and then the option was available.

Is that in cam or crank degrees?

No, the key I am using is a "8". It is the requested key when it detects the Jeep. I don't have a 13a key.

It does show the Jeep as "Federal" emissions, but I am not sure if I can change the mode.

I've been trying to get my hands on some of the newer programmable cartridges, and the newer keys, but when I do find them, people usually want more than I think they are worth.

Yeah... all I have is K8.....

The "Other Systems" menu just brings up other modules...

Maybe I am just not able to adjust the sync with the 2500....

Old topic, but still dealing with it...



I ended up getting a OTC Genisys scanner. I am wondering if it has the setting to adjust cam sync in it or not. Going to have to wait until it gets here.

I know this is an old post but I ran across it several times in my searches of interwebs and I would like to put some info here for others to find.

If you have an MT2500 with the up to 2001 cartridge you probably wont have the option to adjust fuel sync on the 4.0, you may be able to do it if you have a black cartridge with newer programing.

That being said if you let the MT2500 auto select your application and then go back and change your engine to 5.2 L and go the System Test menu and you will be able to select fuel sync. :cheers:

I just used this to check mine (it was at zero) and then set mine to +5 (after grinding off the ears) and it seems to have helped.
