Anyhow, going from 3.55s to 4.11s on 31" tires really made that big of difference in mileage?
On the hood, driving in a aggressive in control style. On the pipe, you can hear and feel when your motor is working and that particular exhaust note is on the pipe.

Ahh.. so on the hood is what is referred to by cops as reckless driving... i know its not, but I've been cited for just that. So, on the pipe would be in the RPM range you are making the most torque?

Anyhow, very very nice MJ. Very clean and just about new looking. Has a bit of an 80s retro feel to it, but it flows well. I tr to keep my XJ clean, but as a dd I couldn't keep it as clean as your MJ.

BTW, how much did those 5.9 vents run you?

Yeah, I'm an old school retro bastid. :) And the MJ is my d/d too. I got the hood vents and drip pans from an Army buddy stationed in the UK for very cheap. The export XJ Orvis models had the same hood vents as our 98 ZJ 5.9 V8 models, but they were non-functional ornamental only, no drip pans. I wanted the drip pans, so he got these from an UK export ZJ model as they are functional. I could not mount them in the XJ stock locations as below, so I had to improvise and move them back. With minor trimming on the drip pans, they fit in just fine. And they provide just enough additional under hood temp cooling in traffic to augment the dual electric fans. Worked out well. :D

I went with the GTP hood vents because the 5.9L were hard to find and expensive.. and I like the look of the GTPs better.

You are saying that the hood vents on the Orvis XJ are non functional?

My friend in the UK said he looked at about a dozen Orvis XJs there and they were all dummies. Only the GC had the functional vents w. the drip pans.

He also said they were glued on - no attaching screws. The Brits probably don't care anyhow. Don't they prefer looks over function?

Dyno tuning the Unichip at Hesco was $150. For just a dyno run and peaking out the fuel pressure and/or adj. MAP is about 1/2 that. I'm not sure what other places would charge.

Lovin' it! Idles better, starts quicker, and mileage has remained about the same, if not a bit better, I think due to the more efficient flow of the new intake.

If a person builds similar to the Hesco "ingredients," do I need to use the adjustable FPR with either the Mopar injectors or Ford 24# injectors? If I go with the UniChip, does that override the need for adjustable MAP and FPR? Will a slightly hotter cam with more duration counteract the effects of what would otherwise be too much compression? I usually run premium anyway.

Thanks all,
Todd
