Re: 4.6L titan
I had a cold start issue on my 2000 XJ and the TSB below seemed to fix it. Basically the dealer just needs to reprogram the PCM.. all of 20 minutes.
1801301 - ROUGH IDLE AT COLD TEMPERATURES
Date: 06/11/01
Model Year(s): 2000
Description: Some vehicle engines may exhibit a rough idle and / or Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) light on condition upon initial start-up after a cold soak when temperatures are below 50 degrees F (10 degrees c). This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software (Cal level 00Cal15C).

It starts up rough at any temp outside as long as the motor has been sitting and competly cooled down!

I had a tick from an exhaust leak and I thought it was the gasket that titan gave me. Then it turned out that who ever welded together my cheapo ebay replacement header was <carlos mencia voice> RETARDED </carlos mencia voice> and didn't make it so it would sit level against the cylinder head

Re: 4.6L titan
the ticking is back haha. I had the ticking gone for like 2 or 3 days then it came back!! The things i did when it was gone was add octane booster and tighten up all my manifold bolts. But 2 days of hott driving it came back slowly. I noticed it was slowly appearing to come back! so im thinking it my manifold bolts are comming loose. What do you all think?

Re: 4.6L titan
If tightening made the tick go away and it slowly came back it should be that they are loosening up. What are you torquing them to? Try to re torque them again and see if it goes away.

I torque them as tight as i could with a open ended wrench. But also i do notice my flanges at my down pipe arnt really square so i may need to straighten them out and retighten.

Re: 4.6L titan
Yesterday i went to the dunes and the engine ran good except for the ticking. To tell you the truth i really cant tell if its a big improvement over my 4.0L!! Unless im just used to the power by now. Think i should get a unichip??
im getting very pissed at this ticking noise. Im going to buy a borla header tomorrow and when I install it im going to used exhaust gasket caulk along with the regular gasket to make sure it will never leak. If this doesnt fix the ticking problem I have no idea what i am going to do.
Im going to get a video tonight of the noise

Re: 4.6L titan
Don't use exhaust gasket caulk. Use RTV copper on the gasket.

Re: 4.6L titan
Thanks. Does anyone think i should upgrade to a 500 dollar header? Borla?
There are many reasons why i think its a manifold leak is one. I listened to spark knock videos on youtube and the sound in the videos dont sound like my jeep. Also when sitting in the passenger seat you cant really hear the tick cuz the manifold is on the drivers side.

Re: 4.6L titan
I would just get a cheap APN header and have it jet hot coated. Paying big bucks for a Jeep header isn't worth it with the way they crack. The only one that I haven't heard about cracking from yet is the Banks header. Thorley redesigned theirs sometime ago because of cracking and they come ceramic coated now. But the ceramic coating has flaked off on my two. And their support is pretty bad as the last time I had to have it re coated they tried to find fault in my engine, not the crappy coating.

Re: 4.6L titan
Just a question, I have read that the Wranglers have a 49 psi fuel pump and the cherokees have a 39psi fuel pump pressure? is that true? Cuz when reading and trying to set my map voltage that i read on http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoMAPsensor.htm at the bottom all the different voltages ran.
i tried 6.00volt to 5.00 volts and there is huge lag when i step on the gas. So im dialed down to 4.25volts and it seems to have no lag!
So my question is does this make since that the wrangler has a higher pressure fuel pump the lower the volts ill need?

Re: 4.6L titan
Where ever you read that the wrangler has a higher fuel pressure is wrong. 97+ XJ and TJ both have 49 psi.
