4.9 stroker engine
I have purchased a Titan 4.9 stroker monster for our 2006 Wrangler unlimited. Since then, our gas mileage has decreased. We were told we needed to purchase a chip and have it Dyno'd in order to improve our gas mileage. Has anyone has this issue, had it dyno'd and did it help?

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
You're sucking in ~20% more air now and so fuel has to increase as well. . . Getting the new setup tuned will give you better mileage(than current, but not necessarily better than stock) and power.

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
is it going to be worth the price of the dyno and chip to gain another mile or so per gallon

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
I wouldn't trust anything made by Titan, especially when they're claiming 315hp/345lbft from their 4.9 stroker with only an 8.9:1 CR. Unless they've offset ground the rod journals to increase the stroke, it's very doubtful that it's even a 4.9.

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
Does anyone know what a jeep, with a manual trans should be set in for towing
our jeep is lifted all the bells and whistles We have been told the transfer case is to be set in neutral and manuel trans in neutral but we have also been to set transfer case in neutral and the manuel trans in 5th or 6th gear HELP to settle this

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
It is safer to have both in neutral, I have seen where something will cause the transfer case to pop into gear and blow the transmission before you know it. Especially if towed behind a camper where the Jeep is far away there is a load of torque behind a diesel... Granted, I only know of two instances, but I would have both in neutral, or better yet, pull the driveshafts if you do not have a slip-yoke.

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
If both are in neutral, is the manuel trans still turning when being towed. We were also told that the manuel trans would not be lubed properly unless it was in gear.
We do have a slip-yoke. Your input is greatly appreciated. We have been towing with both in neutral. I am going to keep it that way.

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
If both are in neutral the transfercase will freewheel and the trans should not see any movement and as such not need lubrication any more than it would if you parked it.

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
Personally, you paid big $$ for the motor, whether it gets better MPG or not get it tuned right.Arnie59 wrote:is it going to be worth the price of the dyno and chip to gain another mile or so per gallon

Hey Arnie 59 does that 4.9 stroker feel like 315 hp, do you notice the performance?

Re: 4.9 stroker engine
Amen to that,i also have fallin for the titan monster gimmic.I'm currently waiting on some return calls on getting a custom tune for it .The first qoute was a 1100$,this other shop is trying to get around having to purchase the handheld.,this thing is nowhere near 315hp,getting it tune may make it run better but i doubt it will perform THAT much better on the hp end.Heck the 4.7 had more torque and hp than this engine,to bad it came apart with less than thousand miles on it.So if anyone has had this done already plz inspire me
