Bonneville Comanche

Post by Plechtan »

I got my number yesterday for the Bonneville truck, no 2 digit or 3 digit numbers were available, so i was stuck with a 4 digit number. The 1986 factory truck ran with the number 40, then 140 (it set a record at 141mph) so i tried for 1140, 4140 1040 etc. no luck. Since the first truck ran in 1986, i tried for 1986, no luck again. I tried all the years of production for the Comanche, and the only year available was 1985, which also happens to be the year my son was born. So we will run with the number 1985. The next line on the application form was for the Vehicle name. We wanted "worlds fastest Comanche" but the timing plaque is limited to 17 characters. The Jeep factory team took their comanche to El Mirage under the name LSR. They blew the motor and did not set any records. They went back to Detroit, put another motor into it, made some other changes and renamed the truck "LSR2" We are thinking of calling our truck " Comanche LSR III" . I do have a week or two until the application is due in, and am open to suggestions.

jeepstrokers.com is 16 characters :rockout:

I think LSR 'Manche III would be cool. With the LSR on the end it sounds like your referring to the record not the vehicle.

Is the number already final? I know its your sons year, but could you do the engine size in ccs?
Now I can be like all those other awesome people with more than one Jeep in their sig, but now I have to say one of them is sold:(
97 XJ 4.6
90 MJ 4.0 - sold

I want to have as many Jeeps as children. DD, offroader, drag MJ and another one. 4=4

The number is actually assigned to a person not a car. So the CC displacement might work for this one, but if i changed displacment or cars it would not make much sense. The class we really want to run in is the 3.015L - 4.2L class. Gale banks ran a S15 truck in this class in 1989 and set a record of 183.9mph. That is the record to beat. We would use a 3" stroke ( stroked the wrong way) Billet crank that they use to use in the stadium trucks. This would give us a 4" bore and 3" stroke, about 226 cid. these engines would rev to 7,500 rpm. Our rod will be about 6.7" long. This would give allot of time at the top and bottom of the stroke. Should make great power.

The other Bonneville comanche

Post by Plechtan »

Well i got a new post over on the Comanche board, turns out tha there is another Bonneville Comanche http://home.comcast.net/~lakeviewcruiser/site/?/home/
The guy put a small block chevy in it, made good power until he broke the crank in half  http://home.comcast.net/~lakeviewcruise ... s_History/
I don't recall ever hearing about Jeep cranks breaking in half.

My truck would not compete with his, an engine swap puts him into the Modified class and I will be running in the Production class.

Last year when i was at Bonneville the only jeeps i saw were the Wrangler support vehicles.

Thats what he gets for putting a SB Chevy in it instead of a I^ lol ;)

Ive never heard of any Jeep crank having any sort of problems like that except for the normal wear that requires some journal grinding.

I got the truck back from paint this week, and decided to start a new thread in the Projects section. Check out the pictures over there
